After Smears, Sean Guard Drops Bid for Reelection

by lewwaters

Earlier this afternoon this blog was included in receiving the following announcement from Sean Guard, Mayor of Washougal, Washington.

I am sending this to the large group of folks who have been so supportive of us, especially in the last week.

It is obvious that this far right faction is desperate to get me out of office and they will do anything possible to do so. Annie and I know the truth, however, as do so many of you.

I bleed orange and black. I am Washougal through and through. I have spent the last 7+ years leading our community to greater heights and preparing it for the future. We have so many awesome opportunities in front of us thanks to the team and most of the council that is in place.

Right on Schedule, Probst Goes Negative

by lewwaters

Probst, Forked TongueNothing out of the ordinary for Democrat candidate for the 17th Legislative District Senate seat, we once again see Tim Probst firing off negative antics against his opponent, Republican Lynda Wilson.

This is par for the course with Probst as similar negativity has been seen in every campaign he has been involved in, even though he crows the loudest about clean campaigning and his efforts to run a clean campaign I have yet to see.

In this first negative ad he sent out, we see the effort to tie Lynda Wilson to 5-term State Senator Don Benton, who is not running for reelection and much reviled by Democrats in Southwest Washington.

CCGOP Digs Themselves in Deeper

by lewwaters

Ship 1 As expected, my post Clark GOP Playing Dirty Again? was not well received by some extremist factions within the Clark County Republican Party, who seemingly spent much of Monday, May 19 scurrying around doing damage control and attempting to make themselves appear altruistic.

In the process, they have made some claims that are not being confirmed by the ones they are attributed to when I contacted them.

These extremists would have you believe that the initial email sent out to a selective group of PCO candidates was their effort to ferret out what they describe as a conspiracy against them by some WSRP operative in Bothell that “has been caught filing at least 20 online PCO applications on behalf of Clark County residents, some of whom had no intention of filing and gave no permission to use their names.”

Clark GOP Playing Dirty Again?

by lewwaters

This blog made no secret of the dirty, underhanded tactics used by the Republican Party back in 2010 that saw a good conservative Republican undermined in favor of Jaime Herrera. It appears that even though the so called “establishment” that was responsible then is no longer chairing the Clark County Republican Party, the dirty politics against Republicans continues.

Precinct Committee Officers are the backbone of any political party that reach out to neighbors, vote for the party platform and if need be, select replacements if an elected partisan officials cannot complete their term in office.

While we have been pointing out how the Democrat Party has been requiring a lock-step position and it is Republicans that truly are the “Big Tent” party, welcoming diverse views, how disappointing to see the below email forwarded to me that allegedly is seeking to set up a lock-step, one view attitude within PCO’s in Clark County.

Recipient’s information has been removed, but not the senders and party officials connected.

Tim Probst, Lies and Deception Is Not What Washington State Needs

by lewwaters

Tim Probst and Sen. Don Benton

There is little doubt how the Washington State Democrats have pinned all hopes on former 17th Legislative District Representative Tim Probst to steal the State Senate seat held by Republican State Senator Don Benton for the past 16 years in order to retain the destructive majority that has led our state into such economic gloom we still see.

Clark County, where a large portion of the 17th district exists remains in its 4th straight year of double digit unemployment while these same deceiving Democrats continue to push for higher taxes and enabling more people to depend on welfare & food stamps.

We have focused on false and misleading claims by Tim Probst and PACs pouring hundreds of thousands of dollars into attack ads designed to make the voters believe Don Benton is the worst person ever born, while trying to make Tim Probst appear like a sweet little angel.

He isn’t. In fact, he is far from it. Don’t let the boyish face and smirk fool you.

UPDATED: Where Did Tim Probst’s Pledge of a “Clean Campaign” go?

by lewwaters

Tim Probst and Sen. Don Benton

It’s no secret that the Washington State Democrats have wanted rid of 4-term Republican State Senator Don Benton in the 17th Legislative District as he has been one of the most outspoken opponents to their agenda of taxing citizens to death and empowering public unions, not to mention forcing Southwest Washington to accept Portland, Oregon’s financially plagues light rail into our community and state against our will.

They have placed their hopes in 17th District Representative Tim Probst, the boyishly faced 2-term Rep who has been carefully crafted to appear as what he is not, as I explained in the post, Why Won’t Tim Probst Take A Stand On The Largest Issue Facing SW Washington?

Tim Probst enjoys hiding his true nature behind his boyish face and in spite of a history of pledging “clean campaigns,” his past 2 elections have shown he stealthily engages in negative attacks ads, even to the point of copyright violations, as was acknowledged to me in email with Columbian editor Lou Brancaccio back in October 2010.

UPDATED: Distracted Priorities: The Great Sign Caper of 2012

by lewwaters

Columbian editor Lou Brancaccio labels it the “Crazy Season,” that time in campaigning when political rhetoric grows into a fever pitch and for some, tempers flare. Whatever you call it, it shows how divided our country is due to the divisive tactics used today by some politicians and pundits as they pit American against American, forgetting the age old admonition, “a house divided cannot stand.”

One such failed candidate from the past, seemingly trying to repair a tarnished reputation, presents the appearance of having broken the crime of the century by claiming participation in a sting to catch a campaign sign thief, aka the Great Sign Caper, and actually taping himself chasing down a bicyclist alleged to have stolen a sign on camera and engaging the alleged thief on the bicycle instead of paying attention to driving his car on a public street.

Listen to the video with your eyes closed and it readily becomes apparent that the sign theft is but the background while the thrust is about who is chasing down the alleged thief.

Honest People of Character Don’t Stand a Chance

by lewwaters

David Castillo, former candidate for Washington States 3rd Congressional District has released his statement urging his supporters to elect Republicans. David continues to shine as a man of true honesty and integrity with character that is seemingly non-existent in politics today.

My Statement on the Results of the Aug 17th Primary Election

I applaud David’s stand as he continues to show the state he is a man of integrity and that it was never about him, unlike others. I have very serious reservations as to whether or not, if the situation were reversed, any such statement would have come from his opponent.

Although I was often accused of being on David’s staff or working directly for him, that just isn’t true. I do consider David as a friend today as from when I first met him his true character was easily detected and what I saw in him is something we have needed in political office for far too long, and apparently, something we may never see.

David says to us,

I respect, immensely, the feelings expressed by those of you who have determined to ‘vote your conscience’ in this campaign, but I want to implore all of you to set aside any notion of sitting out this election, conducting a write-in campaign or, worse, voting for Denny Heck.”

This is the very rift I have spoken of that party insiders ignore and act as if it doesn’t exist; having ensured the establishment candidate of choice won the nomination.

I have made no bones of the dirty tricks and underhanded tactics I witnessed in this campaign. My trust in the GOP leadership was shattered as I saw it all unfolding and last evening, in an effort to severe my ties with the local GOP, it became all the more apparent as I was basically informed that I did not see what I saw and even when confronted with the emails that stirred much of it up, they were marginalized.

The corruption within the system that drives many voters away from the polls and convinces potential voters that there is no difference between the parties will never be corrected as long as you are not willing to stand against it, expose it and squash it.

The task cannot be laid on the shoulders of one person and then not stand up behind them. As Irish philosopher Edmond Burke has long been credited with saying, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

Both prominent political parties have sold us down the drain again and we are once again faced with candidates more interested in self than actually serving the public. We are reduced to a choice of Tweedle Dem or Tweedle Dumb.

David Castillo has stood up and for his effort slapped back down by the establishment political machine. And still, he stands up showing style and class in urging unity to mend a rift, caused not by him but the very political establishment that slapped him back.

His former opponent posts a facebook comment.

That’s the nature of an arrogant career politician.

As for me, I have seen the dark underside of partisan politics and am walking away from it. I can no longer support political parties having seen the corruption and dirty tricks used and the excuses and efforts given to deny it exists, even when confronted with the dirty trick.

In many ways I have fought to try to save a country whose people don’t want saved for over 40 years. I’m tired and overdue a vacation.

It’s time I went camping and maybe get a little bit drunk for the first time in many decades.

When I return I’ll weigh my options and decide what to do. But I still think it will not amount to a hill of beans difference who gets elected.

Good luck, America. You need it.

When Does The Sleazy Campaigning Stop?

by lewwaters

Nothing is useful which is not honest.” Ben Franklin

I’ve said it before and I continue to say it, the campaign ongoing for the 3rd Congressional District seat is the sleaziest I have seen in all my years. I cannot fault the Democrats as they selected a strong contender in Denny Heck and got behind him fairly quick, save a few diehard supporters of liberal Craig Pridemore.

No, it has been completely on the Republican side with the sleaze thrown at one candidate only, David Castillo. With just two days until mail-in ballots are due to be postmarked and counted, it continues.

I called the Vancouver Castillo campaign office this afternoon to see just how things were going and was met by a very distraught and frustrated campaign manager who related to me how some time over night, several more Castillo campaign signs were completely destroyed.

Hwy 14 and 192nd.

I’m not talking about the small yard signs, but these were the larger signs staked deep into the ground and steadied by braces. As I was told, “it looked almost like someone drug them out with a chain attached to a pick-up truck.”

Herrera signs were left unscathed and in a couple locations, Hedrick signs were placed nearby, also unscathed.

As the cowards who slink around under the cover of darkness know, no one knows for sure who they are and little will ever be done by the authorities. That is why they operate in such a cowardly fashion. They fail to realize that they are denying others of their constitutional right to campaign and exercise free speech in campaigning. Like we have seen all too many times in our history, the constitution only applies to their rights, not the rights of others.

While to some degree this happens during every election, it was elevated to new heights this year shortly after the candidate filing date passed.

We have been treated to false bravado and bogus polling showing Castillo dead last in the race. Yet, he remains the target of one campaign especially whose candidate goes on the air to whine about being attacked when no such attacks have occurred.

If you are not aware of what I am saying, listen to the Thursday, August 12 broadcast of the OPB radio program Think Out Loud when David Hedrick is asked about some legal problems his father in Florida is accused of. While I find such accusations unrelated and off limits to this campaign, Hedrick’s initial reply was quite suspicious.

His words were, “one that information you got is inaccurate. It’s probably from another blogger. We’ve had tons of smear campaigns here.” Listening to him speak, it was almost sounded as if he was expecting such a question.

I have yet to read or see any mention of anything remotely related to the accusation on any blog or media, other than the OPB article that was printed shortly after the broadcast and later in the Columbian. Did Hedrick set up his own smear to deflect attention and try to draw sympathy?

A check of Central Florida newspapers after the broadcast also brought back no information from their archives. So, how was it that the OPB moderator was able to “read” of this and where did he read of it? Legal documents are cited, so someone tipped them off.

Would Hedrick or one of his people plant this information so he may play victim and blame others for smearing him? Your guess is as good as mine.

From bogus allegations all across the Columbian’s comments sections of Castillo starting fights in parking lots to bogus polling showing Castillo dead last and Hedrick out in front, David Castillo has been the steady target. Like those pesky little dogs always yapping and nipping at his ankles, supporters of Hedrick’s have labeled David Castillo everything from an “anchor baby” to a Bush lackey.

What I find to be very telling and a great deal curious is the complete silence of the other GOP candidate, Jaime Herrera, the establishment favorite with strong party backing. While this bogus poll Hedrick embraced and advertised show he and her in a statistical tie, they act like old friends, while always snipping at Castillo’s ankles.

They don’t compete with each other in this race, but send out Hedrick supporters, like attack dogs to go after the one they claim is dead last in it all.

What makes it even more curious is knowing that the GOP chair of Pacific County, a strong Herrera supporter, offered to pay the over $1700.00 filing fee to former candidate Chris Boyd to encourage him not to drop out. Isn’t that generous of a county party chair that supports an opponent running against David Castillo?

It does beg the question whether or not such an offer was also made to another, but we will never know for a fact one way or the other.

Most suspicious in that never to be answered question is that the attacks against Castillo from supporters of Hedrick were elevated to levels not seen before beginning shortly after the candidate filing date passed.

And, Herrera remains untouched and says nothing about any of it, other than how great she and Hedrick get along.

It is almost as if some sort of deal was made between the supposed front runners in a statistical tie, according to the bogus poll Hedrick and his supporters swear by, to run interference and be political hit men against supposed dead last candidate Castillo, while Jaime Herrera acts sweet as pie in it all and innocent as driven snow.

And now, two days before ballots are due, unnamed cowards sneak around during darkness to destroy expensive campaign signs of Castillo while leaving their guys alone and placing them where Castillo’s were.

Unfortunately for these cowards, voters throughout the 3rd district are smarter than this. I am confident they will see through this charade and vote accordingly.

Castillo supporters, you can counter this cowardly ankle biting by standing up and making your voices heard. Call Castillo’s campaign office and offer to help sign wave or man the phone banks.

Gather neighbors and friends together for an impromptu support rally.

Show this small band of malcontents their tactics are not working and come Wednesday morning, they will be little more than a bad memory.

If we wish to clean up politics, it’s up to us. No one will do it for us. And we can spend the next two days showing these sleaze merchants they have failed. Contact Michelle Miller at Michelle@castilloforcongress.com and offer to join in and let’s vote for the candidate we want, not what we are being told we should have.

Dino Rossi Subjected To Democrat Dirty Tricks

by lewwaters
Veterans For Dino Rossi

Veterans For Dino Rossi

Obviously realizing there is better than even chance they will lose the governors race by a large enough margin even King County couldn’t find enough “lost & misplaced” ballots to steal another election, Democrat partisan lawyers have subjected Republican candidate, Dino Rossi to a trumped-up, politically timed legal accusation.

This maneuver is so egregious that even the normally left-winged Seattle Times ran an Editorial labeling it a farce!

Since Christine Gregoire managed to “discover” enough lost and misplaced ballots in the third recount to steal the 2004 governors election, she has broken nearly every campaign promise she made.

And now, eager to retain power, her minions have used the courts to not only make negative headlines in regards to Dino Rossi, but to deny him hours of valuable campaign time, which includes causing him to have to cancel an important appearance before the Seattle Rotary Club, where Gregoire had already made her appearance, unhindered.

Subjected to a four hour grilling that should have taken no more than a half-hour, the Democrat partisan lawyers actually called King County Superior Court Judge Paris Kallas requesting even more time to subject Dino to this ridiculous display of partisan dirty tricks.

Besides subjecting Dino to a total waste of his precious time this close to the election, the effort is to get his name connected to their lawsuit filed against the Building Industry Association of Washington, that suit itself also being little more than a political nuisance suit filed by two former state Supreme Court Justices, Robert Utter and Faith Ireland, both Gregoire supporters.

Liberal legal activist, Knoll Lowney who is representing the justices claims, “The magnitude of [the BIAW] apparent violations is unprecedented.” Lowney has previous history of filing politically motivated frivolous lawsuits against Republicans during campaigns.

One of Dino’s attorney’s, Mike Patterson rightfully said,

“This is totally politically motivated to make Dino Rossi unavailable for his campaign in a close election.”

Former Sen. Slade Gorton and former U.S. Attorney Mike McKay, both Republicans issued a statement saying,

“The Court’s decision to require Dino Rossi to testify in a deposition less than one week before the election is outrageous. In any other case where, as here, a witness is not a party in the case, the court makes every effort to accommodate that witness’ schedule. Not in this case, though, where a group of partisan lawyers asked a King County judge to take an emergency deposition of Mr. Rossi involving a case in which he is not even a party.

A judge should insure fairness for a candidate who is the victim of an obviously political lawsuit. Sadly, that is not the case here. Yesterday, a King County judge gave these political attorneys license to abuse the court system. Adding insult to injury, the judge stated that a deposition will allow Rossi to “confirm — or dispel — the allegations before the election.” Any judge knows that a deposition taken by a hostile lawyer won’t prove the truth of anything. We have never seen a judge issue an order for immediate depositions in any other case of this nature.

This isn’t law – this is partisan politics and it stinks. Requiring Dino Rossi to leave the campaign trail and be subjected to a partisan deposition in the last week of the campaign is wrong. Governor Gregoire should call off this unfair attack against Dino Rossi.”

Eric Earling of SoundPolitics notes,

“Let’s just not pretend, however, that this is anything other than using the judicial system for a partisan, political stunt.”

An email from the Rossi campaign this evening says,

“What took place today had nothing to do with our struggling economy, our high school dropout rate, or any of the issues this race should be about.” It continues, “Christine Gregoire and her backers are willing to do and say anything to keep the Governor’s office. Her campaign is abusing our justice system by using judicial theatrics and negative headlines to try and distract from our positive message.”

The dubious recounts of 2004 showed how eager Democrats are for grabbing power any way they can and holding on to it. Even the current Democrat messianic candidate for president has shown the willingness of Democrats at power grabbing, aided fully by an in the tank media.

The only way to stop these out of control Democrats in their ‘putsch’ towards Socialism is to take a stand and vote Republican. Even if a life-long Democrat, party leaders need to be shown we are fed up with such dirty tactics as they continually engage in.

Let’s get behind Dino Rossi and reelect him to the Governor’s Office by a large enough margin to avoid another shady recount. Throw these dirty tactic-using Democrats out on their ear.

Washington residents, we deserve better than we have been receiving from Democrats. It isn’t the old Democrat party of years ago but a caricature of the party that used to actually care about people over political power.

As the Seattle Times Editorial properly notes, Dino Rossi “would make a fine governor.”

Reelect Dino Rossi
