Jim Moeller, 6 times elected Representative for Washington State 49th Legislative District can be accurately labeled many things. An open homosexual, bombastic, arrogant, sly, slick, effective (for a liberal), agenda driven and more. But the one thing I have never seen in Jim is cowardice, until now.
He does operating in the Legislature with a “my way or the highway” attitude and up until this latest session, pretty much got his way with fellow Democrats controlling both houses of the legislature and a Democrat in the Governor’s mansion.
Jim has never been known to shy away from confrontation, other than to ignore it when it suits him and he will just go about his business. So I was taken aback some when I discovered over a week ago that he placed a block on me for his facebook page, especially considering we had not ‘friended’ each other.
Not on either’s friends list, neither of us leaves a comment on the others page, so I was perplexed why he would block out a constituent, since I reside in the 49th Legislative District and have for over 25 years.
Ignoring the concerns of their constituents in the 49th Legislative District, all 3 Democrats elected to represent us have now vowed to cast our concerns aside, continue ignoring our voices and work as hard as possible to screw us over to ensure funding of the highly unpopular Columbia River Crossing light rail project.
An email received from rookie Senator Annette Cleveland today says, “We are working hard to fund the Columbia River Crossing”, concluding with “Rep. Moeller, Rep. Wylie and I will continue to work on CRC funding throughout the special legislative session to ensure that our state meets the September deadline and qualifies for the $850 million in federal funds. Anything less would be fiscal lunacy and a terrible mistake for our community’s future.”
That voters have rejected every funding measure proposed and outright rejected light rail itself back in 1995 doesn’t enter into the equation.
It is becoming common knowledge that the Columbia River Crossing Project is falling apart as more and more, people open their eyes to the lack of transparency long associated with it and the many false claims used in promoting it.
From poorly designed plans to calls for tolls on top of tolls, increasing gas taxes and license fees on cars to come up with funding for it, people are waking up and standing up against it.
Tired of being silenced, marginalized and just outright ignored, those of us who will long be on the hook to pay for a light rail carrier we have rejected have been pushing back, defeating funding measures associated with CRC and electing officials who are willing to scrutinize the project.
None of that has fazed one of the strongest proponents of the CRC, 49th Legislative District Representative, Democrat Jim Moeller, quite possible the single most arrogant person elected to our state legislature.
I have long maintained that 49th Legislative District Representative Jim Moeller is focused primarily on his own “special interests,” those being the open promotion of homosexuality and societal acceptance of what was considered a ‘deviant lifestyle’ not all that long ago.
Moeller, an open homosexual has been instrumental in the incremental steps taken to legalize homosexual marriage in our state, promoting “domestic partnerships” over the years by using elderly people as a prop and gradually increasing the declared “rights” of homosexuals while retaining their “protected class status.”
I have been labeled a bigot, a liar, a homophobe and what have you when I would mention that domestic partnership laws were merely incremental steps towards fully legalized and recognized homosexual marriage, supporters claiming each time that the specific law proposed was “all they were seeking.” Even if I quoted other openly homosexual legislators claims of it only being an incremental step, I was demeaned for mentioning it.
Washington State 49th Legislative District is probably one of the most liberal districts in the state if not the most liberal. A conservative Republican candidate doesn’t stand a chance of being elected in the 49th as all that seems to matter is that ‘D’ behind a candidate’s name, evidenced by the reelection of Jim Moeller 5 times, even though he openly holds constituents in deep disdain, passing ridiculous taxes that get overturned by citizen initiative and even suing constituents to invalidate their votes when he disagrees with them.
Moeller seems to think his reelection and the election of Sharon Wylie, married to Vancouver City Attorney Ted Gathe, even the election of inexperienced Annette Cleveland to the State Senate over Eileen Qutub in 2012, an experienced former legislator from Oregon (just like Wylie) grants them some sort of carte blanche to just do as they please, very proud of the fact that his party has held a lock on state government for over a decade.
But let’s face it, you find the dead, rotting carcass of a road kill raccoon and run it in the 49th as a Democrat and it would get elected by at least 60%, voters not looking at anything but party affiliation.
Bombastic, Arrogant, Narcissist, Megalomaniac, all adjectives that have been used and well fit 49th Legislative District Representative Jim Moeller, the Democratic easily reelected to a 5th term in what may be one of the most liberal districts in the state and definitely in Clark County. Moeller is well known as a ‘tax & spender’ always seeking ways to increase taxes and throwing money around, our money, not his own, as if a clown in parade.
From his ‘candy tax’ that was quickly nullified by voter initiative to his joining a lawsuit to invalidate voters votes on another citizen initiative calling on the legislature to require a 2/3 majority vote to increase taxes, Jim Moeller sits in his legislative office ignoring those he is elected to represent unless they are in agreement with his special interest agenda’s.
The above was put up by Jim Moeller, D 49th Legislative District on his facebook page. Perhaps he forgot all of the times he has complained and whined about Clark County being under the yolk of a Republican majority, even though the state legislature is a Democrat majority.
Or does he believe he is so wonderful that his district alone accomplished this feat?
How many years have we been telling especially Moeller what is important to us and being ignored?
How many times have said the 2/3 supermajority for tax increases is important to us only to have Moeller join in a lawsuit against us to invalidate our votes on it?
When was the last time either Jim Moeller or Sharon Wylie gave a damn about anything other than furthering the leftist agenda?
Washington’s 49th Legislative District is fairly well known as a stronghold for liberal Democrats on par with the Puget Sound. Democrats in the 49th continue to be elected time and again, in spite of it also having some of the highest taxes, highest unemployment rate and lags behind the rest of the state.
With the announcement from State Senator Craig Pridemore that he was not going to seek reelection, Democrats have enlisted and promote Annette Cleveland to run for that open seat. But, who is Annette Cleveland? What does she have to offer us? What political experience does she bring to the campaign?
In answer to the last two questions, very little other than her claims of assisting the Vancouver Chamber, C-TRAN and supporting far left Democrat Patty Murray at WSU.
With a résumé that thin, we have very little to go on other than what we hear her say in her campaign speeches, such as her description of what formed her “Foundational Beliefs” from her 2012 Clark County Democrat convention speech
The arrogance of 49th Legislative District Representative, Jim Moeller is well known amongst both supporters and opponents. In fact, he is about the most arrogant person I have ever met and I have met a lot of people over my years. His deeds and actions are classic examples of a Megalomaniac, someone “characterized by delusional fantasies of power, relevance, or omnipotence with an inflated sense of self-esteem and overestimation of their powers and beliefs.”
But his arrogant ‘shot across the bow’ aimed at the Columbian and editor Lou Brancaccio in Lou’s Saturday, October 27, 2012 Press Talk column, I love the 49th District!!! is so blatant it initially even took me by surprise.
Considering that the Columbian has endorsed Jim Moeller in every single one of his successful bids for state office, they frequently editorialize in opposition to his stance on many issues, mostly tax increases and wage and benefit increases for public union employees, while the private sector continues to struggle and tighten our belts.
Since 2002, Democrat 49th Legislative District Representative Jim Moeller has successfully warded off challenges to his seat by some very capable Republicans, often winning by large margins exceeding 60%. Obviously, he is an effective campaigner, but 5 consecutive wins seems to have gone to his head as today we see him wearing his arrogance over those wins on his sleeve as proudly as he does his homosexuality.
He is well known for snarky comments left for constituents who disagree with him as much as he is his love of taxing the pants off of his constituents (no pun intended).
But his effectiveness in the Washington Legislature is questionable. Yes, he is very effective at pushing through special interest matters while ignoring the growing budget gaps every session, but a quick look shows that his district, the 49th is much worse off today than it has been for some time.
The 49th, wholly contained within Clark County struggles in its 4th year straight with double digit unemployment. When I contacted Mr. Moeller, along with several others back when Oregon passed their massive anti-business tax increase (measures 66 & 67) outlining we had a “golden opportunity” to attract those much needed jobs to Washington State, he responded,
There is a reason pencils all come with erasers. We all make mistakes and get something wrong from time to time and responsible people will correct errors they make. None of us are above making errors and getting something wrong or even relaying something we thought we heard that actually was not what the other person said.
Newspapers especially have a commitment to the public to ‘get it right’ and often we see retractions or corrections published when they don’t. Let’s face it, reporters are only human and make mistakes and when such an error is pointed out, it is incumbent upon them to make such corrections.
Apparently not at the Columbian, though.
We all know the Columbian, the unofficial daily newsletter for the CRC & Democrat Party and their bias towards the left. But the email copied to me between Republican candidate for the 49th Legislative District, Carolyn Crain and Columbian editor Lou Brancaccio just boggles my mind.
It has long been known that Jim Moeller is pretty much a single issue representative, wanting first and foremost to promote what he refers to as “equality” for homosexuals. As we saw in the legislative session earlier this year, a $1.5 Billion budget gap took a back seat to ram-rodding a homosexual marriage bill through, wasting half of the session and causing the legislature to have to enter special session after Republicans and 3 Democrats stopped yet another Democrat inspired “kick the can down the road” hurry-up budget.
Continuing in that mindset, several times now Moeller has hounded Republican candidate for the 18th Legislative District, Liz Pike to state her position on Referendum 74, a measure to be voted on in November statewide to allow voters to say whether or not homosexuals in Washington State should marry.
Earlier, I had written a post that I took down, leading some to wonder why I revised it and possibly thinking I was changing information. I said then that the reasons would be revealed shortly. I hope this short post will explain to those who were wondering. The original contained reference to this incident that was premature in releasing on my part as I had mistakenly assumed the man was already arrested.
I received word by phone early this morning that a person, 50 year-old Gary Owen, who had been sending threatening emails to Republican 49th Legislative District candidate Eileen Qutub had been arrested on suspicion of two counts of malicious harassment, a Class C felony.
Owen, obviously not a supporter, indicates extreme anger over receiving a campaign mailer in the mail and instead of just throwing it out, as a sane person would do, sent the following email,

If you have ever been to a Vancouver City Council Meeting or Clark County Board of Commissioners meeting, you undoubtedly have seen Carolyn Crain speaking out against waste and policies many of us not only see, but know will be detrimental to our community. She’s shown herself to be a gutsy woman ready to stand for the struggling people of our community.
Tired of seeing how the voices of citizens in our community have not only been continually ignored, but seeing the citizens sued by unions and those previously elected to represent us, to overturn the clear mandate from citizens to the legislature that we want a 2/3 majority requirement for tax increase on us, Carolyn is stepping up to run for the legislature as 49th Legislative District Representative district 2 against Democrat Jim Moeller who has held the seat for a decade now.
Moeller, it must be remembered, is one of the legislators who quickly signed onto the union backed effort to have I-1053 declared unconstitutional, an effort to thwart the will of some 64% of voters across the state, 71% of Clark County citizens who voted to require the 2/3 supermajority for tax increases.
While current legislators claim to support our constitutional right to citizen initiatives, Carolyn Crain actually does. She says, “I think the people need to express their voice in order for those who are elected to serve them to really know what the people want. If limitations should be placed on any part of the process then it should be at the legislative level. If the people vote for something with an initiative then I think it should be honored.”
Now that we see 17th Legislative District Representative Tim Probst feeling he is ready to tackle and entrenched incumbent for a State Senate seat, his seat in the House will be an open seat that the Democrats surely will want to retain with another person. Should Tim lose the Senate race, which is likely, he will not be allowed to just return to his House seat.
The 17th now has a Republican Senator, Don Benton who has won the seat 4 times now and Paul Harris, also a Republican holding down position 2, running for a second term.
Republicans have Mike Appel and Julie Olson, both of whom announced their intent to run against Probst prior to his coming out on his bid against Benton.
Knowing that the Democrats will not want to lose the seat held now by Probst, it would be expected that they recruit a strong candidate to run in his place. All indications at this time is that is not what they have planned and are trying to recruit Monica Stonier, who lost to Republican Paul Harris in the 2010 elections by nearly 7 percentage points and who we last heard of, was trying to relocate her residence to qualify to try to be appointed to replace Democrat Jim Jacks, who abruptly abandoned constituents due to scandal in 2011 in the 49th Legislative District.
The Columbian endorsed her campaign in the 2010 General Election, but did not in the primary election that year citing they “were — and remain — worried about her close ties to the teachers union.” She still lost.
I know how politicians love to spin numbers and throw out smoke screens as they stick it to us in our back sides, but either Senator Craig Pridemore (D. 49th) is completely out of touch. Or, he either isn’t very good at spin or he has the worst timing ever. Below is a screen shot of his enewsletter received just today.

Nothing would please me more than to believe this claim, but does he not know that the Port of Vancouver just raised property tax by 1%? The city of Vancouver just raised property tax by 1%? C-Tran just hoodwinked us into a sales tax increase? The City just raised ad valorum tax by 1%? Utility taxes were just raised as well as rates are increasing. Governor Gregoire wants a sales tax increase and C-Tran is already scheming to hit us with yet another sales tax increase next year.
Mike Heywood, chairman of the 49th Legislative District Democratic Central Committee assigned the task of replacing Jim Jacks, who abruptly quit his office, abandoning constituents March 25, has put the brakes on filling the empty seat, leaving the 49th Legislative District under represented during session.
Democrats Rep. Jim Moeller and Clark County Commissioner Steve Stuart have urged the “slow-down” according to the Columbian article.
Heywood, who initially favored a quicker replacement of the quitter Jacks now says, “they don’t need the vote in Olympia. As that has become more of a shared opinion, the pressure for speed is off,” indicating how comfortable the Democrats are with their majority an ability to shove through any legislation they desire, constituents be damned.
Moeller, indicating most of the work this session has already been done said, “I think our strategy is to put forward our best candidates.”
Would that be like putting forth Jim Jacks since 2008 just so he could abandon constituents 2 weeks ago, saying he did not want the reasons discussed publicly?
I remain amazed at the glaring disparity displayed by the Columbian in coverage of the resignation of Democrat 49th legislative district representative Jim Jacks, compared to the coverage given Richard Curtis’ resignation in 2007 and a few other conservatives they seemingly did not take a shine to.
What amazes me the most is Columbian editor Lou Brancaccio chiming in on a comment I left addressing the disparity on a post at their blog portion of the online site by Marissa Harshman, who I consider one of the better staff writers in regards to fair coverage and objectivity.
Besides Lou not being known to comment often in that area of the site, some of what he said in the comments has me questioning once again, the claim of an “unbiased newspaper.”
